Wireless Level and Float Switches

Wireless Float Switches

A wireless float switch detects the level of a liquid in a tank or container. It floats on top of the liquid and functions as a mechanical switch as the liquid level rises or lowers. Wireless float switch systems are used to control pumps, valves, motors, or alarms. They are a cost-effective solution when the distance needed to run wires is a problem. Wireless float switches can be used with a wide variety of liquids.

How does a wireless float switch work?

A wireless float switch is a mechanical switch that floats on top of a liquid surface. As the liquid level goes up or down, it moves with the liquid. Depending upon how the counterweight is anchored the mechanical switch opens or closes at a certain liquid height. This allows an electrical current to pass through it completing the input circuit to a wireless switch transmitter. The wireless switch transmitter then send a command to the wireless receiver a great distance away to activate a relay.

How does the Float Switch function?

A standard float switch consists of a hollow body that floats and an internal switch. The most common type of internal switch used in float switches are known as a reed switch. A magnet inside the body activates the reed switch when the float tilts down or up. There are a few other types of internal switches, but the working principle that they open or close due to float angle and water level moving the float switch vertically up or down is the same.

Float Switch Counterweights

Most float switches use an external counterweight. These type of float switches with counterweights have set angles at which they operate and will activate the internal switch. The cable length between the counterweight and the float switch creates the angle with the water level.

Description

This float switch is a device used to sense the level of liquid within a tank. When used to activate a relay or contactor this switch can turn on a pump, an indicator, an alarm, or other device. The versatility of this vertically mounted sensor means that it can be installed either at the top or bottom of your tank, depending on whether you need to detect the water's rise or fall.
